Brilliantly Simple

For Peter, adjustment was not the goal. It was a means to an end. To gain the full benefit of the balanced tilt principle, the chair had to fit the sitter well enough for the body to remain in control. If adjustment was necessary to achieve this, then adjustment itself should be made as simple as possible. This became one of the central ideas behind H05.
Peter’s answer was to link functions that were related. After setting the sitting height, the user could turn one wheel. As the wheel turned, seat depth, backrest height and forward tilt resistance changed together according to a calculated average relationship. Instead of asking the user to understand the chair, the chair did much of the work.

For those who wanted something different, backrest height and tilt resistance could still be fine-tuned individually. But the order was important: first experience the simple solution, then, if necessary, fine-tune it. Easy for the many. Adjustable for the few who wanted more.

H05 retained the principle at the heart of Credo. The sitter was balanced above the chair’s tilting point, allowing the feet and legs to influence the tilt of the chair body. The body could move – or find rest – without first operating a lever.

Peter’s proposed expression for H05 captured the ambition: Brilliantly Simple. The chair had not been made to do less. It had been made to ask less of the user.
