Peter Opsvik - Moved by Movement

The exhibition explores, above all, how Opsvik throughout his life and work as a designer and artist, challenged the idea that sitting should be ‘still and passive’.

A selection of his iconic chairs and designs invites visitors to experience his belief that movement is essential to human wellbeing. By sitting, moving, listening and interacting with his designs and Sound Objects, visitors are encouraged to explore the ideas that shaped his work. Peter Opsvik’s soundtrack Woodwork, remastered by Eivind Opsvik, accompanies the exhibition.

A key part of the exhibition is the close relationship between Peter Opsvik and the office chair manufacturer HÅG, today part of Flokk. Their long-standing collaboration defined a new way of thinking about sitting and became part of Røros’ industrial identity, where the Capisco and Conventio chairs are still produced as of 2026.

At the exhibition opening and throughout the opening weekend, Opsvik’s Sound Objects guided a series of improvised performances by Eivind Opsvik (double bass), Håkon Kornstad (saxophone), and Tollef Østvang (percussion).

The exhibition is a collaboration between Peter Opsvik AS, Rørosmuseet, Kunst & Kaos and the festival Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden.

On display at Rørosmuseet until 23 August 2026.
